On September 26, 2009 the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War plans to place a monument on the sacred Southern soil of the Battle of Lexington State Historic Site. Scheduled to speak is U.S. Rep. Ike Skelton. 

While we do not object to the SUV placing a monument to honor the Union soldiers who fought bravely there, we do object to the manner in which the monument was funded as the wording on the monument. 

The monument (which was funded through the sales of the 19^th century book “The Chronicles of Lexington” which refers to Missourians as“PUKE-ITES”)

States that the Union men fighting under Mulligan were the “Defenders” of Lexington. 

For the record, Mulligan’s men were made up of recent German immigrants to Missouri and Irishmen from Illinois. 

On Monday please call REP. IKE SKELTON at: 202-225-2876  &  respectfully ask him not to speak at an event that was funded by insulting Missourians.

Well, seems like that is a large amount of time spent that you will never get back.

I am just amazed at how much you take offense at the word "pukites". Amazing.

Hmm, well, I'd say that we got a good return on our investment in regards to time.

Our media blitz seems to have paid off.

A whopping 25 people showed up (and that is including distinguished speakers) to honor the "defenders" of Lexington.

I don't think there is a large amount of public interest for Yankee revisionism or sympathizers in the area.

Skelton has problems of his own right now, he is facing some stiff competiton from within his party as well as from the Republicans in 2010.
