"WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush's immigration plan to legalize as many as 12 million unlawful immigrants while fortifying the border collapsed in the Senate on Thursday, crushing both parties' hopes of addressing the volatile issue before the 2008 elections.

The Senate vote to drive a stake through the delicate compromise was a stinging setback for Bush - who had made reshaping immigration laws a centerpiece of his domestic agenda - engineered by members of his own party.

It could carry heavy political consequences for Republicans and Democrats, many of whom were eager to show they could act on a complex issue of great interest to the public.

"Legal immigration is one of the top concerns of the American people and Congress' failure to act on it is a disappointment," a grim-faced president said after an appearance in Newport, R.I. "A lot of us worked hard to see if we couldn't find common ground. It didn't work."

Well "W" how many times is this the federal government going to give amnesty to illegal aliens at 12 million a whack?

There is no common ground, people are sick of it. People like my brother who is a trucker and had an immigrant trucker (some slavic woman) hit his truck on the highway, then tried to run away, then became rude when he did catch up to her and demand he driver info. When she wouldn't shut up he said, "hey just shut up with the foreign B.S.!"

The minute he said that, she said, "Oh you in trouble now your hateful, I going to call the police" When the police arrived she started screaming that my brother was a bigot, which thankfully fell on deaf ears.

Another close relative also had an "experience" with some of these hard working immigrants.

He went to check his mail, looked down the old gravel road that he lives on and saw a whole bunch of Mexicans standing around. When he went to take his mail in , a 4-wheel drive pick up zooms out of the woods into his yard and says, "I have been spraying under the power lines for the electric company".

No regard for property, no notification, nothing, just a Mexican driving out of the woods where there isn't even a road!

Is it any wonder Americans are fed-up with immigration?
