"Dale"

September 4th, the CMT network aired "Dale", a very well put documentary about NASCAR racing legend Dale Earnhardt. It was very moving and it was one of the few TV programs that have aired in my living room which found the whole family gathered together.

It came as no surprise to me though. Women admire men who stand up for something, and are purpose driven.

Children have always needed heroes.

Men have always identified with those that they have something in common with.

In this case Dale filled all of these requirements. He raced his way, he won his way, and when he died, it was probably the only time in his career when he was trying to help someone else win. Specifically his DEI team mates, his son Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Michael Waltrip. He died his way, doing what he loved.

As my brother Glenn has always said, Dale Earnhardt was NASCAR. Speaking of Glenn, you might have best remembered him as the editor of the blog "Southern Trucker". Well he's back with a new blog, "The Travelin' Man"  I believe that he has summed up Earnhardt better than I, below is his blog-post:

"I watched the CMT movie DALE tonight. Dale was my favorite driver and like many other people out there, I always viewed myself as his number one fan. The movie was good. I liked how it was pieced together. It was a very moving picture.

Dale Earnhardt was the "working man's" driver. That's how he viewed himself and the fans felt the same way.

However, there was one problem that I had with this movie: the Confederate Flag was no where to be found. CMT and NASCAR have went to great lengths to get rid of the flag, to increase viewers and to line their pockets with profit. It's an ever increasing trend.

Like it or not NASCAR was a Southern sport. It's roots came from moonshiners in the Carolinas that got together to see who's car could run the fastest. I say was, because thanks to the France family, especially Brian France, and the media they have destroyed the sports Southern heritage. This has been particularly true since Dale's death.

Since Dale has passed, I've quit watching NASCAR. It's not the same.............it's not Southern. If you've noticed the true Southern stock car driver has been forced out of the sport. Now it's nothing more than a Rock and Roll freak show. It's no longer about racing!

The Confederate Flag has always flown at these races. It's a proud reminder of where the drivers came from...........that is, until now!

CMT created a good movie; it's too bad their bigotry for Southerner's got in the way of the movie.

For those of you that have a problem with the flag........grow up! It's not racist, it's not hateful and it's not divisive. It's is a piece of our history and my Southern heritage. It's the only flag that I fly"

I agree, as good as the documentary was, "Dale" was lacking that crucial ingredient that made Dale Earnhardt 'one of us'. The Confederate Flag, which many NASCAR drivers used to display proudly, and fans still display today, that is unless it is one of Brian France's new "diversity" tracks. Even at that, look closely in the sky in Carolina and you're likely to see an SCV sponsored plane pulling a banner that reads, "Don't forget your Southern heritage". If your in Georgia you're likely to see a flyover by a plane sponsored by the Georgia Heritage Coalition pulling a similar banner.

Black Confederate Activist H.K. Edgerton has tackled the issue of "diversification" on his website: www.southernheritage411.com . Edgerton writes:

"Boycott of NASCAR

As singer Stevie Wonder announced start your engines at NASCAR's western swing on Sunday, it clearly marked the end of an era for the Confederate Flag within the NASCAR circle. France and his Hench men have made it clear that the beloved Southern Flag has worn out it's welcome and that loyal Southern fans have filled the coffers of NASCAR sufficiently enough that it does not care what these Southern race car fans think about the ban . Having Wonder there was another farce to make Black folks believe that NASCAR has miraculously developed a caring relationship with the Black community ; when the plain truth is that they are simply after another regional market and are playing the politically correct game in hopes that by declaring war upon the Christian Cross will be enough to suffice the desires of those who hate all things Southern. My only hope is that Black people all across this Nation can see this Reconstruction tactic for what it really is .

Just waving the much sought after Confederate Checkered NASCAR Protest Flag in my opinion is a great idea, however it has become increasingly clear to me that it is not enough. Southern race car fans who claim that they love their homeland need to hit NASCAR where they can feel it the most; right in their pocket. It is time to boycott NASCAR , and for those who don't concur ; come sit at my computer and read all the terror that my Southern babies face everyday, because their only crime is to display the Southern Flag. They are wrongfully deemed racist, crazy if their color just happens to be the same as mine, stripped of their 1st Amendment Rights , beat up, sometimes killed, and even have members of the Court as they did in Lexington, Kentucky against Allen Central High School; conjured up fraudulent claims against the flag with no recompense from the judicial system for their actions. The time is long past due for Southern Blacks to recognize this ploy for what it really is ; a divide and separate strategy that surfaced with the instituting of the public school system after the War Between the States . There is nothing to gain but to move the table of brotherhood farther from the grasp of our people."

Edgerton continues his examination of NASCAR and their plan to "reach out" to minorities by asking how can minorities afford to go?

"NASCAR'S futile attempt to gain support from the Black community to bolster it's coffers by declaring war on the Confederate Flag should very well fall on deaf ears here in the South . Let us examine the cost for an admission ticket which is somewhere in the $90.00 per ticket range; if NASCAR thinks that the average Black can afford or will attempt to afford this pricey admission, then France better put his thinking cap back on. Maybe, and I stress maybe, he might find one or two Blacks that will brave the terror of driving 1-2 hundred miles per hour round and round a race track for hours on end ; again something that most Black folks historically don't find attractive , and for sure , they don't relish sitting in front of a television screen watching NASCAR . Now maybe if NASCAR can get Stevie Wonder to fire up one of those engines and head down the track ; then we might have something going on .

Now let us examine the vendors who sell at the NASCAR events : Black folks want take it too well paying $30.00 for a rack of ribs , and $8.00 for a hamburger . Nor will you find the scalawag Dale Earnhardt's {Jr.}# 8 jersey or replica of his car on the shelves of many , if any black homes.

NASCAR knew the honorable reputations of the many White men and their families who put the Southern Cross on their cars and posted it on the tracks. Instead of the treachery that they now invoke by playing the politically correct game ; they should have repaid their debt to the Southland by joining with the Sons and Daughters of the Confederacy , and organizations like the Confederate Rose, in teaching the many young Blacks and their new public the true history of the Southland and of the honor and dignity earned by the millions of Blacks who loyally served under the Christian Cross of St. Andrew. Instead they took to the low road of political correctness and climbed into the bed with the black mailing poverty pimps, carpetbaggers, historical revisionist , and those who continue to try to eradicate our Christian principles and love for our Southern symbols."

My brother and H.K. both make some very valid points here, and if I may offer a little of my own input I would say this... as good as the CMT movie "Dale" is, I suggest that we remember that if Dale were alive, he would probably knock some sense into Dale Jr, and NASCAR wouldn't dare be pulling their anti-Southern bigotry they have displayed in recent years.

In the end, NASCAR is conjuring up its own version of Reconstruction by trying to rally everyone behind a black "3" flag in hopes that people will forget the flag that represents the region that the sport started in.
