The Constitution Party Conundrum...

The following is an update in the continuing saga of the Idaho Constitution Party, their rejection of attorney Edgar Steele's application and the reaction of the National Constitution Party. This story was originally covered on the Missouri Bushwhacker Blog on May 2, 2009 and again on May 3'rd, 2009.  The following is the third installment and addresses fundamental flaws in the differences between the principles of the Constitution Party and how they have treated Mr. Steele. -Editor

On May 13, 2009 Edgar Steele hosted another edition of his talk show "Nickel Rant" , which you can listen to via streaming mp3 by clicking on this link.

The title of Steele's May 13th, program was "Broken". In addition to the audio link, Mr. Steele published a transcript of his program, with pictures of the Kootenai County, Idaho Constitution Party May meeting. You can read the entire transcript by clicking on this link but for the purpose of this article, I will only quote the following portion of Mr. Steele's  May 13, 2009 program.

"At the close of last week's meeting, Mr. Venable threw the floor open and proceeded to answer my pointed questions about membership and why I was rejected.  Though he declined to state the reasons for my rejection, Mr. Venable assured everybody present that rejecting my mere request to be deemed a member of the Constitution Party of Idaho was the "unanimous" decision of the Idaho CP Central Committee.  I since have learned that Mr. Venable's representation was false, as guaranteed me by the only member of that Central Committee with whom I spoke and who also advised me that he didn't even get to cast a vote.

Mr. Venable also claimed that the Kootenai County membership unanimously was opposed to me.  Again, that representation by Mr. Venable was false, as I have been assured by more than one member of the Kootenai County chapter.

Mr. Venable also claimed that the previous chairman of the Kootenai County chapter of the party resigned because I was being considered for the gubernatorial slot.  Though that ex-county-chairman, Clay Howard, refused to speak with me directly, he reportedly told a mutual friend of ours that Mr. Venable again was misrepresenting the truth, as he resigned in disgust with the party's state leadership.  In other words, he resigned because of Paul Venable, not because of me.  He did allow, however, that he was "appalled that (I) was not allowed to become a member" of the party.

Paul Venable also promised immediately to advise me in writing as to the exact reasons for my rejection and the names of those who had rejected me, in response to my demand for such as my right.  "You have no rights," nastily exclaimed Mary Rutkowski, present at Mr. Venable's right hand throughout the meeting, thereby clearing up for me the source of the local (and, likely, state-level) discontent with my name"

Excuse me? You have no rights? The Constitution Party states in its platform:

"We declare the platform of the Constitution Party to be predicated on the principles of

The Declaration of Independence,
The Constitution of the United States and
The Bill of Rights

According to the original intent of the Founding Fathers, these founding documents are the foundation of our Liberty and the Supreme Law of the Land.

The sole purpose of government, as stated in the Declaration of Independence, is to secure our unalienable rights given us by our Creator. "

I would think that unalienable rights would include joining a state political party with the intent of taking part in the political process. The Constitution Party is starting to sound alot like another party that supposedly supports freedom and limited government. I am of course, referring to the Republican Party but in the 8 years that the Republicans held the Executive branch of our government under George W. Bush, "You have no rights" seemed to be a recurring theme, via forced implementation of Patriot Acts I & II, in the name of "safety" of course.

Is this not what the Idaho Constitution Party is doing under their Chairman Paul Venable ( who, for the record, never replied to my correspondence) ?

Through their actions,(not unlike Democrat Homeland Security Director Janet Napolitano's report which declared nearly everyone who is a conservative a terrorist) have declared Steele a dangerous man, and therefore for the safety of the citizens of Idaho's , refuse to let Mr. Steele join the Idaho Constitution Party, even though he is a member of the national Constitution Party.

There is definitely a racial motive in this saga, though I do not believe it is on the party of Mr. Steele, ( who believes true equality means the eradication of "quotal" programs like "affirmative action").

I believe that Idaho Constitution Party State Chairman Paul Venable might have a problem looking past his own skin color and thus, can not uphold the platform of the Constitution Party because of it.

The national leaders within the Constitution Party have not had the courtesy to answer any of Mr. Steele's correspondence (nor have they mine for that matter).

It seems as if the unwritten plank in their platform is "political correctness", the Constitution guarantees EVERYONE certain unalienable rights, and sadly, at this point, the Constitution Party no longer upholds them.

"Image", is more important to them than principles. Those who put "image" before principles, should not waste their time with a party that is constitutional in name only.
