The Political Fall Out Begins...

(Photo)

Recently I published a special report entitled : "Analysis of the Political Motivations and Implications regarding MIAC report on the Modern Day Militia Movement" both on this blog, as well as on the Southeast Missourian newspaper website.

Yesterday ( March 25,2009) I posted an article on this blog entitled: "Letter to Governor Nixon's Office; the MIAC Hypocrisy" . In the post I called on Governor Nixon to apologize to the people of Missouri, emphasizing that it is a crucial step in regaining the trust of the people again. I also warned that failure to do so would mean a massive political "backlash" which would inhibit the Governor from carrying out his duties and setting his agenda.

Also emphasized was that at the time of writing yesterday's post, Lt. Governor Kinder, was already calling for Missouri Department of Public Safety Director Britt to be placed on "administrative leave".

Unbeknownst to me, the political "backlash" for the Nixon administration is worst than originally predicted. The March 24, 2009 KY3-TV station blog reported that:

“A bipartisan coalition of Missouri House members is planning to sign on to a budget amendment that would prohibit the Department of Public Safety from using any state or federal money for "political profiling."

Springfield Rep. Bob Dixon tells The Notebook that the proposed amendment will be offered on the floor Wednesday in response to the political firestorm over the MIAC security report.

Dixon said several meetings were held at the state Capitol on Tuesday to discuss how best to respond to lawmakers problems with the language included. "It's just outrageous. The report is so sloppy. When you begin going into specific political candidates, it's really on the edge. Like Big Brother. It's got a lot of people upset,"

The KY-3 News report also states that this amendment will:

"Be a unified response".

Meanwhile, according to a news report published in today's Southeast Missourian, Governor Nixon seems to be distancing himself from the report stating that:

"Gov. Jay Nixon says the "overzealousness" of a Missouri State Highway Patrol unit is to blame for a report linking various right-wing organizations with the modern militia movement.

The Highway Patrol is no longer distributing the report because of the controversy. The report says many militia members are part of anti-abortion or anti-immigration movements and support Ron Paul or other third-party presidential candidates.

Nixon told reporters Thursday that no one in his administration, nor anyone he hired, reviewed the report before it was distributed to police across the state. The Democratic governor defended police intelligence-gathering efforts."

"Overzealousness" is not to blame, Governor Nixon is. He is the chief executive officer of the State of Missouri. It is his name that appeared at the top of the report, and he has yet to apologize to the people. Meanwhile his political stock is falling faster than General Motors Corporation.

In yesterday's Missouri Bushwhacker Blog, I posted a letter that I sent to Governor Nixon's Constituent Services representative Linda Heeter, I also published the email address for the Governor's constituents services and called on my readers to write the Governor and demand that he apologize to the people of Missouri.

Today I called the Governor's office and spoke to a lady that seemed very weary of phone calls and complaints. I very politely informed her that I had voted for Governor Nixon and liked some of his ideas, but his failure to accept the blame for this report and apologize to the people of Missouri was hurting his ability to govern.

In addition I told the lady that it was way too early in the Governor's administration to be "stepping in it".

I am asking everyone to email Linda Heeter at:

consrv@mo.gov

I would also encourage everyone to call the Governor's office and make the phones ring off of the hook. Be polite, but steadfast in your complaints and demand the Governor apologize and accept the blame for this document. The phone number for the Governor's office is:

(573) 751-3222

Another good way to get results is to actually take time to write a letter to the Governor (which is what I plan to do next) the mailing address is:

Office of Governor Jay Nixon
P.O. Box 720
Jefferson City, MO 65102

It's time to apply some serious political pressure folks, so let's get started and take our State back!
